In December 2024, there were 19,532 unemployed people in Luxembourg
By the end of December 2024, 19,532 unemployed people are registered in Luxembourg, 1,334 more than a year ago, representing an increase of 7.3%. Among the main categories showing growth are:
- People who have been out of work for more than 7 months.
- Candidates over 30 years of age.
- Highly qualified specialists with higher education.
Significant growth is seen among workers in the transport, accounting, IT, cookery and banking sectors.
Despite the increase in the number of unemployed, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained stable at 5.9 per cent.
In December 2024, there were 2,328 new applications for unemployment benefits among residents, 2.2 per cent more than in December 2023. Of these, 62 people received temporary protection, including refugees from Ukraine.
By the end of December 2024, the number of available vacancies had fallen by 15.2 per cent to 5,935 positions. Employers advertised 2,385 new vacancies during the month, 7.1 per cent fewer than in December 2023. Lower demand affected areas such as accounting and construction.
Luxembourg's labour market in December 2024 shows an increase in unemployment with a decrease in the number of available vacancies. The increase in the number of unemployed among highly skilled professionals and the decline in demand for workers in key sectors reflect structural changes in the economy. These trends require additional efforts to adapt the labour market to new challenges.
