Luxembourg has a new agreement on public sector salaries
Luxembourg Public Service Minister Serge Wilmes and CGFP union head Romain Wolff have presented a new agreement on public sector wages.
The agreement provides for a two-stage salary increase. From 1 January 2025, civil servants will receive a 2% salary increase, and from 1 January 2026 - another 0.5%.
The total budget of these changes for the state will be €195.5 million.
One of the important points of the agreement was the equalisation of the status of civil servants. Now civil servants with 12 years of experience will receive a salary equivalent to the level of state officials.
Additionally, teachers will be paid for extra hours at the standard rate for lessons, correcting the previous system where overtime could be paid at a different rate.
Minister Wilmes described the agreement as "constructive and reasonable" and emphasised that teachers, police officers, lifeguards and civil servants perform essential functions for society.
The agreement will be valid for two years.
