Luxembourg's construction sector has received support from trade unions

After lengthy negotiations, the OGBL and LCGB unions have reached an agreement with employers in Luxembourg's construction sector. The new collective convention affects 20,000 workers and promises marked improvements in working conditions. These negotiations took place against the backdrop of a downturn in new housing construction, which affected the entire industry.
Key improvements for workers include:
- Additional day of leave: the annual number of days is increased from 27 to 28.
- Wage increase: B1 category workers will now receive €0.30 more per hour.
- Enhanced access to training: new opportunities for professional development in Bd and B1 careers.
The Convention enters into force on 1 January 2025, but is limited to one year. This decision has been taken in order to renegotiate in autumn 2025, taking into account changes in the sector. The main objective is to achieve further improvements in pay and working conditions.
Against the backdrop of a housing slowdown, the construction sector has faced a number of challenges, including reduced activity and financial pressures. However, the persistence of trade unions has enabled tangible improvements for workers, emphasising their key role in protecting employee interests.
