One in five jobs in the public sector is vacant
In 2022, Luxembourg established 2,306 public sector positions. This year, another 1,393 jobs are scheduled to open. However, even last year's recruitment is not complete and about 500 positions are currently vacant.
Government agencies are looking for qualified professionals for education, police, tax authorities, and digitalization departments. In addition to the recruitment challenges common to all employers, the public sector faces another serious problem.
It requires a good command of the three national languages. And although there are positions available for foreigners, the competition is still very high, and the requirements are even higher.
There was talk of revising the conditions of admission back in 2020. However, it is still unclear whether expats can be expected to benefit.
