A new form of inter-municipal co-operation is on the horizon in Luxembourg - a planned syndicate between the communes of Bettendorf and Tandel. MPs André Bauler and Luc Emering have sent a request to Parliament and the Minister of the Interior, Léon Gloden, has officially responded.

To date, the Ministry has already familiarised itself with the statutes of the future syndicate, and the relevant services have issued a number of recommendations and comments. On 14 March, the Ministry of the Interior held a meeting with representatives of both communes. It was decided that the current content of the statutes would be reviewed and clarified.

It is not yet possible to say exactly which projects will be realised by the new syndicate in the short and medium term. The communes themselves are still working on defining the syndicate's goals and objectives. This means that the project is at an early stage of preparation and it is premature to talk about concrete plans.

In addition, the Council of State has not yet reviewed the documents, as this requires the completion of a formal decision-making process in both communes. Only then can the draft be sent to the Council.

The Minister confirmed that the creation of the syndicate must be approved by the Grand Duke on the proposal of the Government, as provided for in the law of 23 February 2001. At the moment, it is not yet possible to give an exact date when the new structure will be able to start operating.
