From Tuesday, 16 April, the cost of diesel in Luxembourg will be €1.346 per litre, down 3 cents from the previous week. This is the lowest in three years and four months since 9 December 2021.
Thus, diesel has overtaken both petrol and heating oil in terms of affordability, becoming the cheapest fuel on the country's market. Back in January of this year, a litre of diesel cost €1.555, and the difference is now almost 21 cents - equivalent to a saving of €10.45 on 50 litres.
Other types of fuel have also seen price reductions. From Saturday:
- Sans plomb 95 petrol costs 1,437 euro/litre
- Sans plomb 98 - €1.534/litre
- heating oil - 0.794 euro/litre (minus 3 cents)
The fall in prices coincides with the general trend of oil cheapening on the global market. The unstable geopolitical situation, including the US trade policy and the recovery of production in a number of countries, contributed to easing pressure on oil supplies, allowing fuel producers and suppliers to revise selling prices.
