Ettelbruck makes its streets bike-friendly: cars will have to move slowly

Ettelbruck has made rue Dr-Klein a bike-friendly street. Now the road passing through the residential area is primarily bicycle- and pedestrian-oriented. They can move freely in all lanes, and the speed limit is 30 kilometers per hour.

Cars are allowed on the road, but are at the same time prohibited to overtake cyclists and pedestrians. And you can park cars only in specially designated places, not along the entire length of the street.

This initiative was not limited to one street. Avenue Kennedy and Rue de la Gare have also created special bike-friendly lanes. The experiment in Ettelbruck will last 4 to 5 years and should help Luxembourgers to change its prevalent type of mobility. In addition, local bicycle paths will become part of the national cycle road, which will link the city with neighboring Erpeldange-sur-Sûre.

The city authorities expect that local residents will actively participate in the project: pedestrians and cyclists can share their suggestions by emailing commune@ettelbruck.lu.
