Events: what to do in Luxembourg on August 19-21
We’ve gathered the most interesting events in Luxembourg (and even beyond its borders) this weekend for you.
Have fun at the Schuberfauer
The annual Schuberfauer fair opens today, August 19th. For 20 days, 223 attractions, entertainment and funfair food stalls will await all guests at Glacis Square. The Schuberfauer opens at 11:00 a.m. daily, rides open an hour after opening, and the fair closes at 01:00 a.m. Entrance to the fair is free.
Listen to funk, alt rock and folk at Rotondes
The annual festival CONGÉS ANNULÉS in the cultural center (and part-time nightclub) Rotondes is gradually coming to an end. On the last weekend of the festival, the events are varied.
Jazz-funk band SURPRISE CHEF will perform at Rotondes tonight (August 19). On August 20, radio wave 100.7 will present several young bands from Luxembourg at once — alt-rockers Loivos, punk band LINQ and electronics duo Shebaba. And on Sunday, August 21, Australian folk singer Grace Cummings will take the stage.
All performances start at 20:00. Entrance to the Radio 100.7 concert is free, tickets to other shows cost 14 euros.
Take the kids to an open-air bookstore
Luxembourg, together with Cité-Bibliothèque, opens the second annual open-air children’s bookstore D’Stad liest. Children can enjoy books by world-famous, regional and local authors. For adults, art, culinary and DIY workshops are open. The open-air shop on rue Notre Dame is open daily from 11:00 to 13:00 and will continue working until September 11th. Admission is free.
Visit Guttland
At the end of summer, Gutland, the largest region in Luxembourg, organizes 33 different events for tourists. The events this weekend is varied. Open-air concerts, exhibitions and even surfing in the city are available to the visitors.
Attend an RC plane festival in Belgium
The annual Wings Over Europe air festival will take place this year in Bullingen, Belgium, north of the Luxembourg border. Pilots of radio-controlled aircraft will come to the event from all over the world. Although these models are smaller than regular amateur aircraft, the high-altitude stunts will be no less impressive. Wings Over Europe will run throughout the weekend, admission is free for spectators.
