Gas costs will rise by 2400 euros annually, state may subsidise a 1000 of those euros

Yesterday, on August 31, gas supplier Enovos has announced that for an average household in Luxembourg (parents and two children), gas will become more expensive by about 2400 euros annually.

Back in early August, forecasts promised an increase up to 80% in gas prices. Reality missed that mark by just a bit. Gas will become 77% more expensive on average.

How to deal with this sharp growth? Luxembourg parliamentarians proposed to pay households with low and middle incomes a one-time subsidy of 1000 euros. The measure will affect those households whose members jointly receive 80 000 euros a year or less.

The aid project was proposed by members of the Green Party. Parliament will debate it tomorrow.

However, this 2400 euros increase is not the one. Until December 31, 2022, the state pays all grid costs. There are no new agreements on this issue. If they do not materialize before the end of the year, another 500-600 euros of expenses will fall on the shoulders of the Luxembourgers.
