According to an official statement, Grand Duchess Maria Teresa recently underwent planned surgery, which was successful. As part of her post-operative recovery, she will need to use crutches for some time.
Despite this, on Tuesday she was able to join Grand Duke Henri to welcome children visiting the Palace for the Liichtmëssdag holiday. This episode was essentially her first public appearance since the operation and demonstrated that she is in satisfactory health.
Further details about the nature of the operation and the timing of a full recovery have not yet been disclosed. Representatives of the Court limited themselves to confirming that it was a routine procedure and that rehabilitation is proceeding as normal.
