The esports sector in the Grand Duchy is growing rapidly, but it is still far from being officially recognized. There are several reasons for this, one of which is the controversial distribution of zones of influence.

There are now two esports organizations in Luxembourg: the Luxembourg Esports Federation and the Fédération luxembourgeoise d'esport. According to their calculations, there are now about 5000 athletes in the country, as well as about 80-90 thousand interested spectators who have something to offer. Both federations want to legitimize cybersports by including them in the official list of the Olympic Committee.

The difficulty with this issue is that Luxembourg is a small country that is often not seen as a full participant in the international esports arena. This is another reason why federations are unhappy with the fact that the Grand Duchy is often seen as part of the Benelux, although the connection with France and Germany is much stronger and more transparent.

Anyway, the country's next priority will be to officially participate in the various events organized by publishers and competitive game developers to promote their image and name internationally.

Last but not least on the list is unification. Unfortunately, if the two federations want to go all the way, they will have to think about some form of unification. This will be necessary to coordinate efforts and control the process. Negotiations have been underway since the middle of last year, but no details have been announced.
