Environment, Climate and Biodiversity Minister Serge Wilmes presented data on the number of fishing licences issued over the last four years.

According to statistics, the number of licences is increasing every year:

  • In 2021, 8,250 licences have been issued;
  • В 2022 - 8 653;
  • В 2023 - 9 039;
  • In 2024 - 9,184 licences.

Licences are divided into two categories: inland waters and boundary waters. The latter are increasingly popular, as evidenced by the increase in their number from 3,590 in 2021 to 4,231 in 2024.

Some MPs have suggested introducing compulsory training to obtain a fishing licence, as is done in neighbouring Germany. However, the minister noted that no such changes are planned yet. The current rules remain unchanged, which makes fishing accessible to amateurs without additional requirements.

Fishing in Luxembourg continues to grow in popularity. While other countries are tightening licensing requirements, Luxembourg remains flexible, keeping the hobby accessible to a wide audience.
