Luxembourg movie longlisted for Oscars
The Luxembourgish short film La Valise Rouge was longlisted for the Oscars in the Best Live Action Short Film category. It will compete against 90 other films from all over the planet to advance to the shortlist and compete for the film award.
The film got onto the list thanks to its victory at the recent film festival in Tirana.
In addition to the Oscars, La Valise Rouge also entered the competition program of the European Film Academy along with 28 other films.
The director Cyrus Neshwad shot this film entirely in the Grand Duchy, while drawing on his own Persian roots. In the heart of the movie is a story about an Iranian girl trapped both in a veil and in a fate she wants to avoid. According to Neshwad, his thoughts are now with Iranian girls fighting for their freedom in their homeland. He hopes that the film will help at least a little to overcome inequality across the world.
