Luxembourgers are preparing for Christmas dinners despite inflation
Annual inflation of food prices was over 10% by the end of November. However, this doesn't stop the residents of the Grand Duchy, who are already preparing for the upcoming weekend Christmas dinners in full force.
The largest grocery store chains in the country have noted an increased demand for poultry, oysters and shellfish. However, the sales figures are still lower than in previous years. Therefore, supermarkets have changed the ratio of goods on their shelves. For example, there are slightly less oysters and lobsters, and a bit more raw shrimp and fish.
There is a growing demand for soft drinks in small containers — the 0.33 ml standard, it seems, is getting an appropriate 33% of all the sales in the category. In addition, there's more of a demand for aperitifs and appetizers. Apparently, Luxembourgers' Christmas tables will be festive and varied, but lighter on calories than usual.
