New law expands consumer rights in Luxembourg
No more fake reviews and fake discounts. The Chamber of Deputies passed Law No. 7904 amending the Consumer Protection Code. The law introduces three key innovations: transparency of promotions, explanations during online purchases, and severe penalties for unscrupulous specialists.
How do the new amendments manifest themself? For example, sellers will now be required to provide a reference price when declaring discounts. That is, the lowest previous price of a discounted item in the last 30 days. It must be stated clearly and unambiguously and be easily readable.
Search pages will be required to make notes whether the page owner paid for its listing or not. The same goes for reviews: sites will now indicate whether a review is real. In other words, was it really written by the person who bought the product or service.
And the most important thing: now consumer protection rules are the same, regardless of whether the service was provided for a monetary reward or in exchange for personal data.
