Pediatricians warn of bronchitis epidemic's early onset

The first cases of bronchitis in Luxembourg began earlier than expected this autumn. Beds in children’s hospitals are rapidly filling up. Some small patients are quite ill and need serious medical attention. By October 27, at least 11 children had already fallen ill.

The epidemic is especially dangerous for children under 2 years of age. According to epidemiologists, the current wave of diseases is caused, among other things, by the respiratory syncytial virus also spreading around the country. And the peak of the disease is still ahead.

Doctors recommend such precautions against bronchitis: wash your hands often (especially relevant for brothers and sisters who often play with their younger sibling), avoid crowds, do not communicate with the sick and potentially sick.

Every year about 200 children in Luxembourg are treated for bronchitis. There is no vaccine for the disease yet.
