Place de la Constitution will be almost completely rebuilt
Parking spaces for cars and tourist buses are available right now on the Place de la Constitution. But they won’t be in the future.
The Latz + Partner Architectes-Paysagistes team from Germany won the closed competition of projects for the redesign of Place de la Constitution. Although the winner was known back in June, the results were only made public recently. Even now, some city departments have not fully agreed with the project. However, it has a number of significant advantages that increase the chances of successful implementation.
First and foremost, the project proposes to remove parking and turn the area into a pedestrian zone. Place de la Constitution has historical and cultural significance for Luxembourg. From here you have a magnificent view of the Petrus Valley. Moving the car park will help restore the space to its original appearance.
The designers also propose to restore the alley leading to the square and add new trees to it. This solution will help reduce the city’s ecological footprint and add more shade. A large-scale design project provides for the creation of additional amenities for vacationers: a new elevator, new design of lanterns and coatings.
The renders and concept art provided by the contestants are really interesting. Perhaps they will be able to return the square to its prior social significance. Of course, if the project is fully agreed on and approved.
