The Luxembourg national team took part in the cricket championship

Luxembourg's men's national cricket team is defending the country's honour in Malta. Led by captain Joost Mees, the team will face opponents from France and Malta.

The Mdina Cup tournament runs until Wednesday, July 12, and so far things have not gone well for the Grand Duchy team. In their first matches, the Luxembourgers lost to both the hosts and the French. The difference in points is not significant, so it cannot be called a heavy loss. Luxembourg still has a chance to bounce back.

Immediately after the Mdina Cup will begin another tournament — the Valletta Cup, which will be held from July 12 to 16. The opponents will be the same, but one more participant will be added — Switzerland. Luxembourg will face the Swiss team on Friday, July 14. The match with the team from Malta will be held on Thursday, July 13, and from France — on Saturday, July 15.

The Luxembourg national cricket team

The Luxembourg national cricket team has participated in international competitions since 2003. The first time the team participated in an international tournament in Vienna. For twenty years, the national team participated in various championships, visiting Slovenia, Belgium, Cyprus, Prague and many other countries.

In 2017, the Luxembourg national cricket team won the second prize at the Central European Cricket Cup in Prague. Their opponents were Poland, Switzerland and the host Czech Republic. The championship lasted three days and more than 50 matches were played.

In 2018, the Luxembourg national cricket team again participated in the Central European Cup in Prague. The games were played well, but in the end, injuries to key players of the team led to the defeat against Switzerland.

One of the big victories of the Luxembourg National Cricket Team happened in 2015, when the team won first place in the Continental Cricket Cup. The previous winner of the championship was the team from Romania. The third rival of the championship was the team from Hungary. Participants and cricket lovers remember this championship because of the bad weather — only the final match was played under clear skies. But despite the weather, Luxembourg gave their best and became the continental champion.
