Vaccination season in Luxembourg: influenza, covid, monkeypox
Representatives of the Luxembourg healthcare system recommend that residents of the country start a new round of vaccination as well as renew their old vaccines. This is especially important for the age group of 65 years and older. Seasonal autumn influenza, combined with covid, can cause serious health problems without sufficient protection. In addition, monkeypox continues to spread in the country, as well as throughout Europe.
This year, the common influenza virus is mutating again, and new vaccines are needed. In addition, after two consecutive pandemic years, people simply aren’t as used to getting sick. Protection measures and social distancing helped. Therefore, even mild seasonal diseases can be more severe than usual.
You can get vaccinated against influenza and covid at the same time. Experts recommend doing this no later than October.
Monkeypox is an even more pressing problem. The first batch of vaccines has already arrived in the Grand Duchy. Now the country has 1400 doses. You can sign up for vaccination starting today, August 16. To do this, contact the Service of infectious diseases at the Luxembourg Central Hospital (Centre hospitalier de Luxembourg). You can do this by calling (+352) 4411-3129 Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 17:00.
If you have already been in contact with a virus carrier, you can call the hospital hotline (+352) 247-85650.
Earlier, WHO has declared monkeypox a new threat to global health, and soon after the first death from the disease was registered in Europe.
