The Luxembourg Water Administration (Administration de la gestion de l'eau) has announced the start of the bathing season, which will run from 1 May to 30 September. This year, all authorised bathing areas have undergone water quality assessments based on monitoring results from 2021 to 2024. Most of them are recognised as excellent - but with reservations.

Where you can swim and what the water rating is:

Weiswampach Lakes (Weiswampach)

The top zone is "good", zones 2-4 are "excellent".

Lake Haute-Sûre

Beaches in Rommwiss, Liefrange, Burgfried, Fuussefeld, Insenborn, Lultzhausen are "excellent".

Remerschen Ponds (Remerschen)

Zones 1-3 are "excellent" and zone 4 is "good".

Lake in Echternach (Echternach)

Adventure Island's permitted swimming area is "good."

Controls are carried out in accordance with the 2009 regulations. However, as the administration warns, if toxins from blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) or other health hazards are detected, bathing may be temporarily prohibited.

Water condition can now be monitored not only through official channels, but also on your own using the Bloomin'Algae app, where you can upload photos of suspicious algae. This will help strengthen public monitoring and promptly respond to possible threats.
