Every year, Luxembourg's Ministry of Gender Equality and Diversity (MEGA) awards a prize to communes that have particularly stood out in promoting inclusion and social justice. In 2024, five communes have won the award: Leudelange, Roeser, Mondercange, Schuttrange and Rosport-Mompach. These communes have demonstrated a proactive approach to creating an equitable and tolerant society by implementing innovative projects that affect a wide range of residents.

Minister Yuriko Backes, presenting the awards, emphasised the importance of local initiatives in building a more just society: "Change starts with our communities. Such projects, she said, are the basis for a holistic policy to promote equality and diversity at the national level.

The award includes not only an official certificate of recognition, but also financial support. The funds allocated are intended for the development of new projects aimed at gender equality and support for social diversity.

Since 2020, MEGA has been awarding this prize annually to communes that are proactive in social policy. In four years, 12 communes have already won the award, demonstrating success in promoting women's rights, combating discrimination and supporting inclusion.

Communal administrations play an important role in shaping sustainable social standards. Unlike national policies, which may remain abstract for residents, local projects have a direct impact on people's daily lives. These can be programmes to support women in business, educational initiatives on equality issues, or events that raise awareness of the rights of the LGBTQ+ community.
