Luxembourg's Minister of Health responded to a parliamentary query by explaining the details of the contract with Pfizer/BioNTech for the supply of COVID-19 vaccines.

The contract between the European Commission and Pfizer/BioNTech, which started in 2021, will run without interruption until the end of 2026. It is based on an EU decision taken in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. This arrangement allows for the centralised procurement of vaccines for all European Union Member States.

From 2027, vaccine procurement will be conducted in accordance with Luxembourg's national legislation on public tenders. This change is due to the end of the current centralised contract.

When asked about the transfer of surplus vaccine doses to other countries, the Minister said that Luxembourg remains in contact with international organisations to respond promptly to possible requests. However, no concrete deals on vaccine transfers have yet taken place.
