CFL (Luxembourg Railways) has announced a major overhaul of its passenger information system aimed at improving customer comfort and comprehensibility. The reform was a response to the results of satisfaction surveys for 2022, where passengers expressed a need for clearer and more accessible information.

Traditional line numbers are a thing of the past. Each route will now be identified by key departure and arrival points and important interchanges. This decision was taken because 83 per cent of passengers are not familiar with line numbers.

Examples of new designations:

  • Line 10 is now called "Luxembourg - Ettelbruck - Troisvierges - Gouvy".
  • Line 60 becomes "Luxembourg - Esch/Alzette - Rodange"

This will make it faster and easier for passengers to find the information they need.

The digital signage at railway stations and platforms will also be updated. The new system will emphasise:

  • Destination, departure time and key stops along the route.
  • Improved colour scheme for better readability of information.

More information will be forthcoming in the future:

  • Train composition, showing first and second class areas, as well as areas for people with reduced mobility and cyclists.
  • Direction of travel and occupancy of carriages to better accommodate passengers.

To improve perception, the CFL has also revised the colour palette of the railway line scheme. The new colours make the map more inclusive and easy to understand for all categories of passengers.
