On 30 January 2025, the Oekozenter Pafendall hosted the annual awarding ceremony of environmental certificates for tourism sites. The event was attended by the Minister of Economy, SMEs, Energy and Tourism, Lex Delles, and the Minister of Environment, Climate and Biodiversity, Serge Wilmes.

This year, five new properties received the "EcoLabel Luxembourg" label, one hotel was honoured with the "EU Ecolabel" for the first time, and another five were awarded the "bed+bike" label. In addition, 11 properties renewed their "EcoLabel Luxembourg".

EcoLabel Luxembourg, established in 1999, is awarded to hotels, campsites and tourist facilities that reduce energy and water consumption, reduce the use of plastic and packaging, support local production and use renewable energy sources. Today, 48 facilities in Luxembourg hold this label.

bed+bike, introduced in 2011, recognises hotels and hostels adapted for cycling tourists. Such places offer secure bike storage, repair tools and tourist information for travellers on two wheels. Now 88 facilities in Luxembourg are certified to this standard.

The EU Ecolabel, created by the EU in 1992, is the official European certification for hotels that comply with the most stringent environmental standards. In 2025, Mercure Luxembourg Kikuoka Golf & Spa became the first Luxembourg hotel to receive this certification.

The full list of 2025 laureates can be found on the ministry's official website.

Lex Delles said that environmental certification makes Luxembourg more attractive to tourists:

"These eco-labels are not just a mark of quality, but part of our sustainable tourism strategy. We support establishments that adopt responsible environmental practices, creating a comfortable environment for travellers and preserving natural heritage."

Environmentally certified hotels and campsites play a key role in Luxembourg's sustainable tourism strategy. The authorities continue to support establishments adopting environmental practices, making the country even more attractive to tourists who value conscious consumption and a comfortable stay in harmony with nature.
