The trains in Luxembourg have proven to be punctual
Minister of Transport and Public Works Yuriko Backes presented data on the performance of the railway company CFL (Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois).
For the period January to October 2024, the punctuality of CFL trains was:
- Global performance: 90.9% - of the 1,000 trains, 909 arrived on time, 62 had delays, 9 were partially cancelled, and 20 were completely cancelled.
- Rush Hours: 86.9% (weekday morning and evening flights).
CFL counts all cancelled flights in its statistics, making them more stringent than other countries' methodologies.
Comparison with neighbouring countries
- In Germany (Deutsche Bahn) and Belgium (SNCB), cancelled flights are not included in punctuality calculations.
- In France (SNCF), a train is only considered cancelled if it is taken off the schedule the day before 4pm.
These differences in approach make direct comparisons of effectiveness difficult.
While the CFL captures all data on delays and cancellations, this information is not routinely published. It is currently only available as PDF files, which limits transparency and accessibility to the public.
