What children were called in Luxembourg in 2025

Luxembourg's mayor Lydie Polfer has summarised the demographic results of the year, publishing statistics on birth rates, marriages and the most popular baby names. Despite a general sense of demographic decline, the capital showed a steady performance: between January and December 2025, 5,768 babies were born in the city - slightly more than before the pandemic.
The choice of names, according to the mayor, shows a fidelity to tradition, with rare exceptions. For boys, the leader is Noah, a name that was not in last year's top 4. He is followed by Gabriel, Liam and Léo, all of which have appeared in the ranking before. For girls, the choice was even more conservative: Sofia, Olivia, Emma and Alice - these names are consistently popular, although former favourites Zoé and Léa have fallen off the list.
In registering such names, parents seem to be trying to maintain a balance between modern sound and classic reliability. Noah, for example, is a universal and internationally recognisable name that sounds fresh and biblical at the same time. A similar flexibility can be seen in the name Sofia, which has confidently held its position in European rankings for many years.
