The Spain-Portugal match turned into a tragedy for one of the sides

The World Cup play-off match between Spain and Portugal ended in dramatic fashion. A late goal by the Spanish team in the final minutes of the match decided who would progress to the next stage of the tournament. Numerous supporters of both teams watched the match being broadcast on a big screen set up in Glacis Square in Luxembourg. Throughout the entire ninety minutes, the atmosphere in the square remained extremely emotional and tense.
At the same time, the outcome of the match provoked diametrically opposed reactions among spectators. Portuguese supporters were deeply disappointed by the result. In the view of many of them, the game was completely even, and the national team deserved at least to go into extra time. In an interview with RTL, one of the Portugal fans noted that conceding the decisive goal at the very last moment is always extremely frustrating.
For their part, the Spanish fans greeted the final whistle with a sense of relief and enthusiasm. As one female supporter of the Spanish team told journalists, the match had been incredibly thrilling and nerve-wracking, but the winning goal brought the supporters sheer joy.
