Luxair continues to develop its own pilot training programme. The last Pilot Cadet Programme intake started training in January 2025, with the next stream starting in April.

The programme allows young people to train at foreign flight schools and obtain a basic flying licence after 18-24 months. Graduates then undergo a six-month training programme to work for Luxair and start their career as a co-pilot on a De Havilland Q400 or Embraer E195-E2.

In time, they get the opportunity to move to a Boeing 737 as a co-pilot and then, after a few years of experience, to become a commander on first a De Havilland Q400 and then a Boeing 737. However, as Luxair training manager David Siebenaler points out, the career plan may change with the arrival of the Embraer E195-E2.

To apply to participate, a candidate must:

  • Being of legal age.
  • Be at least 1.57 metres tall.
  • Take a medical test.
  • Have the right to work in Luxembourg.
  • Speak and understand English fluently.
  • Have a high school diploma.
  • No criminal record.

The company already has 550 crew members (220 pilots, 330 flight attendants) and continues to recruit. At the end of 2025, new aircraft will join Luxair's fleet, which will increase the demand for qualified personnel.

For those who dream of becoming a pilot and working for an airline, the Pilot Cadet Programme is a great opportunity to get the training you need and start a career in aviation.
