From 15 October to 14 November, car owners in Luxembourg will be able to check the condition of their headlights and tyres free of charge as part of the annual road safety campaign organised by the association Sécurité Routière with the participation of the Automobile Club of Luxembourg (ACL) and authorised service stations.
Cars that pass the test successfully will receive an official compliance sticker.
Inspection points and schedules differ from last year's - up-to-date information is available at www.acl.lu.
At the same time, the police will start intensified checks on the roads, which will last until the end of December. Special attention will be paid to:
- condition of the headlights;
- condition and tread depth of tyres (minimum 1.6 mm, recommended 4 mm);
- the presence of winter tyres in ice and snow (they are legally required in such conditions).
Until 19 November, there is a warning phase: if a car is found to have faulty headlights, the driver has 5 days to rectify them and show the car to the police again - without a fine. However, fines for worn or unsuitable tyres will be imposed immediately.
