Holidays in the Alps under threat

There's catastrophically little snow left in the Alps. Some of the slopes are so barren that it's become impossible to ski or snowboard on them. One of the toboggan courses has now become a favorite among pedestrians and cyclists instead.

There are 35 to 40% fewer people at local resorts than usual. This is a serious blow for tour operators and winter sports enthusiasts. The problem has even been noticed by residents of nearby settlements.

Due to the high temperature and lack of precipitation, even snow cannons can't salvage the situation. At some point, some of them stopped - it's just too hot to efficiently produce artificial snow.

Luxembourg tour operators are not refunding tickets just yet. They suggest customers simply wait a while. According to forecasts, snow may cover the mountains in the near future.
