Luxembourg does well at the games in France. Of course, the strength of many opponents exceeds all expectations, but the athletes from the Grand Duchy do not give up.

Patrizia Van der Weken finished fourth in the 100 meters

She finished fourth in her heat with a time of 11.13 seconds, but had to run 11.07 seconds to qualify for the final. After the semifinals, Van der Veeken admitted she was disappointed, but believed she was in position to qualify for the final. "A good result at the championships is not the same as at the competition," the athlete added.

Sprinter Julien Alfred from Sainte-Lucie was the Olympic champion in the 100 meters, beating American Sha'Carri Richardson. Alfred brought her country its first ever Olympic medal, finishing in 10.72 seconds. Richardson was second in 10.87 seconds and another American, Melissa Jefferson, took bronze in 10.92 seconds.

Patrizia Van der Weken emphasized that she will work even harder in the future to achieve her goals.

The Turkish shooter has become a meme

Yusuf Dikeç is already considered an Olympic legend. It's hard to imagine a more striking contrast. On the one hand, athletes dressed like cyberpunk heroes. On the other, a 51-year-old man who won a silver medal in the 10-meter pistol mixed team competition. Together with his partner Sevval Ilayda, they made Turkey famous.

If the spectators had handed out medals, the Turkish duo would have definitely won the gold. Unlike his rivals, who wore special goggles, eye patches and ear protectors, Yusuf came to the competition powerful, epic and as unconventional as possible. Yusuf did not even try to copy his opponents from other countries, who are known for their extravagant poses. The Turk just walked up to the table, picked up a gun, put his free hand in his pocket, and started shooting. "He'd smoke if he could," they joked online, and yes, it would have made the competition even more extravagant. Now Yusuf is already being referred to as his "Turkish uncle," imagined as an anime character that all villains fear.

But jokes aside. Despite his apparent simplicity, Yusuf Dikeç is a highly accomplished athlete. He is participating in his fifth Olympic Games and started shooting in 2001 after serving in the gendarmerie. A master's degree holder, he has won the World Championship twice and the European Championship seven times. "Success doesn't come with your hands in your pockets," the 51-year-old athlete notes ironically.

Paris prosecutor investigates threats

The complaints were filed by the organizers of the Olympic opening ceremony, Le Parisien reported Sunday. Alexandre Billard, deputy general manager of the Ubi Bene agency, Thomas Jolly, artistic director of the ceremony, and Thierry Reboul, executive director of ceremonies for the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games, described death threats.

The Brigade for Combating Crimes against the Person (BRDP) is in charge of the investigation. In addition, the National Centre for Combating Online Hate (PNLH) opened an investigation into cyberbullying and online hate following a complaint from Thomas Jolly, who reported receiving threats and insults related to his sexual orientation and alleged Israeli roots.

The Paris prosecutor's office also opened an investigation into cyber harassment and death threats against French DJ Barbara Butch. Her role in the ceremony, where she performed alongside drag queens, a transgender model and a teenager, sparked a wave of insults and threats against her.

The Luxembourger was seven minutes behind

Belgium's Remco Evenepoel completed an unprecedented double in the history of men's cycling, winning both the individual time trial and the group race on Saturday. He beat two French riders, Valentin Madouas and Christophe Laporte. Luxembourg's Alex Kirsch finished 40th, more than seven minutes behind.

Evenepoel, a Flemish rider, took the solo victory, leaving his rivalValentin Madouas behind on the third climb of the Montmartre hill with 15 kilometers to go. Madouas finished second, just ahead of the chase group led by Laporte.
