EU services exports to reach €1.5 trillion in 2023
According to Eurostat data published on 30 January 2025, total EU exports of services in 2023 amounted to €1.43 trillion, up 2% from 2022. EU imports of services also increased, reaching €1.27 trillion (+4%).
This growth indicates that the sector is recovering from the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic crisis.
The EU's trade balance in services in 2023 totalled €153bn, the second highest since 2010. The leader remains the record year of 2022, when the surplus reached €181bn.
The US and the UK remain the EU's main trading partners in services.
- The US purchased €319bn worth of services from the EU, representing 22% of all services exports outside the EU.
- The UK imported services worth €280 billion (20%).
- Switzerland ranked third with €154bn (11%).
In terms of EU services imports, the US is also the largest supplier, providing €427bn (34% of total services imports). The UK and Switzerland ranked second and third with €230bn (18%) and €91bn (7%) respectively.
