A year and a half ago, Luxinnovation and the Luxembourg Ministry of Agriculture signed an agreement aimed at supporting innovation in the agri-food sector. The programme will run for three years and covers projects at both the production and processing stages, with the aim of creating new value chains, diversifying businesses and promoting a sustainable approach.

The initiative focuses on four key aspects: innovation, digitalisation, sustainable development and cooperation with research structures. In 18 months, the Luxinnovation team has established contacts with 40 companies, provided more than 70 service offerings and supported 24 projects.

Examples of projects include:

  • Digitalisation of Domaines Vinsmoselle, where a digital maturity assessment was carried out and the Fit 4 Digital programme was implemented.
  • Recommendations for Dussmann Catering to reduce food waste and improve energy efficiency.
  • Development of vertical farming solutions by Fitotech through the R&D&I scheme.

Work began in 2023 to create a digital map of the agri-food sector to better understand the market, identify key themes and strengthen business support. This is a similar approach previously used for other strategic sectors such as automotive and health technology.

In addition, companies have access to a brochure with a detailed description of all types of state support. A digital version is planned in the near future to improve access to information.
