Luxembourg's 2025 budget targets technology
Luxembourg has presented a draft budget for 2025 with a focus on the development of artificial intelligence. MP Corinne Cahen (DP) presented a report including 103 recommendations to the government. They address key areas such as inclusion, healthcare and the application of AI for Earth observation.
The main financial indicators of the budget:
- Revenues: EUR 29.6bn (+5.2% to 2024).
- Expenditure: €30.9bn (+4.5% by 2024).
- Deficit: €1.29bn, €500m less than previously expected.
- Public debt: 27.5% of GDP in 2025, with plans to reduce to 26% by 2028.
Key areas of expenditure:
- Social transfers: 47%.
- Salaries of civil servants: 24%.
- Education: 15 per cent.
- Investments: 4.6 per cent.
The report pays special attention to the application of AI. The government plans to use advanced neural networks to: improve access to services, including healthcare; monitor the environment and predict climate change; and ensure national security and cyber security.
The MP's report emphasises the need for strong coordination between different sectors to achieve the goals. Planning until 2028 includes further steps to reduce debt and investments in education and digitalisation.
