Luxembourg's social initiatives: why it matters
On 17 December 2024, the first Luxembourg Social Entrepreneur of the Year Award ceremony took place in the historic Cercle Cité building, bringing together social economy enthusiasts and international partners. This event marked a new stage in the development of social entrepreneurship in Luxembourg.
In his speech, Georges Mischo, Minister of Labour, highlighted the growing importance of social entrepreneurship, especially among young people. He presented two key initiatives: the first Jobday of the social economy, to be held on 27 March 2025, and a major information campaign aimed at raising public awareness of the role of the social economy.
The main focus of the evening was the "touch BASE - Be.A.Social.Entrepreneur." competition. Young social entrepreneurs presented their projects, among which the startup Canopi, chosen by audience vote, won.
The main prize for the best social business went to the on.perfekt project, which stood out for its innovative approach to solving social challenges.
This first ceremony was not only a celebration of ideas, but also the beginning of the formation of a platform for the further development of the social economy in Luxembourg. Such initiatives give hope that entrepreneurship can be not only profitable but also beneficial to society.
