On 25 August 2025, Luxembourg Finance Minister Gilles Roth hosted colleagues from German-speaking European countries at an informal meeting in the capital. The talks were attended by Karin Keller-Sutter, President of the Swiss Confederation and Head of the Federal Department of Finance, Brigitte Haas, Head of Government and Minister for Presidential Affairs and Finance of Liechtenstein, Markus Marterbauer, Minister of Finance of Austria, and Rolf Bösinger, State Secretary of the German Federal Ministry of Finance.

The main topics of discussion centred on Europe's competitiveness and international economic trends, including regulatory trends. Participants stressed the need for continuous dialogue and noted that administrative simplification and stable policy frameworks have a direct impact on the investment climate and economic growth.

Gilles Roth said: "The meeting of German-speaking finance ministers in Luxembourg is an expression of our common will to work closely together in the face of geopolitical and economic challenges. Only together can we make the right decisions to ensure Europe's long-term competitiveness in the interests of its citizens".

The meeting ended traditionally with an audience with the Crown Grand Duke Guillaume at the Grand Duke's Palace, which gave the event symbolic weight and emphasised its diplomatic importance.
