On 12 December 2024, the second "Landwirtschaftsdësch" meeting was held at Senningen Castle, organised by the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Wine, Martin Hansen. The aim of the event is to strengthen the dialogue between the agricultural sector and the government in order to create a sustainable and competitive industry.

Key achievements and plans

Demonopolisation of bureaucracy and support for construction

A "one-stop shop" has been introduced to simplify permitting procedures, including projects in green spaces. By January 2025, it is planned to issue a guide for farmers describing steps and opportunities to improve administrative processes. New building regulations will make it easier for farmers to create facilities for storage, product sales and educational activities.

Reduction of ammonia emissions

The working group has implemented measures to reduce emissions by 11 per cent since 2005. The main efforts are focused on modernising fertiliser technology, optimising livestock nutrition and pasture management. The goal is to achieve a 22% reduction by 2030.

Protection of water resources

Best practices have been developed to protect water quality and procedures for obtaining exemptions in water protection zones have been simplified. Pilot projects are already showing positive results.

The renewal of generations of farmers remains an important issue. In spring 2025, a national action plan will be launched to attract young professionals to agriculture. Strengthening localised processing of products will support regional production and short supply chains, strengthening food security. Alongside this, a new food policy strategy is being created with a focus on sustainability.

Landwirtschaftsdësch has become a platform for discussing problems and finding solutions that balance environmental sustainability and economic profitability in Luxembourg agriculture.
