Gas for food stamps: some gas stations in Luxembourg accept an unusual payment method
Edenred, a French company, issues food stamps among other products. These can be used in Luxembourg as well. This is convenient for many cross-border workers. However, individual clients of Edenred, employed in Luxembourg companies, use these stamps to pay for gas as well.
According to workers, in Luxembourg, control over the use of stamps is lower. There are gas stations that freely accept them as payment for gas.
Edenred’s CEO in Luxembourg says that his employees explicitly warn shoppers that food stamps can only be spent, and that’s pretty obvious, on food. Representatives of the Luxembourg gas station network GPL, whose stations reportedly accept this payment method, did not answer journalists’ questions.
