MeteoLux has extended the ‘yellow’ alert due to persistently high temperatures in the southern half of Luxembourg. According to official data, the warning will remain in place until at least midnight on Wednesday night. Furthermore, experts have not ruled out a further extension of the warning, as temperatures could rise to +30°C on Thursday and reach +31°C on Friday before the weather becomes more comfortable.

Unlike France and the UK, where May temperature records have already been broken, Luxembourg’s all-time high remains unbroken for now. Officials told L'essentiel that peak temperatures could be recorded on Tuesday. Temperatures in the vicinity of the Findel weather station are expected to approach +31°C. At present, the absolute record for May in the country remains at +31.6°C, which was recorded on 29 May 2017.

The spell of intense heat will begin to ease towards the end of the week. Although the maximum temperature on Saturday will still be around +29°C, by Sunday thermometers will show no more than +26°C. The drop in temperatures will be accompanied by localised rainfall. Until then, regional authorities advise residents to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun and to use sunscreen and head coverings.
