Thunderstorms are set to hit Luxembourg

The national meteorological service, MeteoLux, has issued a ‘yellow’ alert across the whole of Luxembourg due to forecast thunderstorms. The storm warning will come into effect at midday and remain in place until 10.00 pm on Thursday.

According to weather forecasters, scattered rain fronts will move across the country during the afternoon, developing into heavy localised downpours in places. Meteorologists are warning of possible squalls with wind gusts of up to 70 km/h. At the same time, rainfall intensity over short periods may reach 10 to 15 mm.

As the evening approaches, the thunderstorms will gradually ease off. A calmer air mass will move in from the west, meaning that the coming night is likely to be mainly dry, despite the persistent thick cloud cover.
