CinEast Film Festival opens with Ukrainian film about Luxembourg

The movie is called «Luxembourg, Luxembourg» and it’s a comedy. It’s amazing to get an entertainment-focused film from a war-torn country, but facts are facts. Prior to CinEast, the film made it to major film festivals in Toronto and Venice.

The film was presented by the Ukrainian Minister of Culture Oleksandr Tkachenko. True, the minister did not come to the Grand Duchy in person, limited himself to a video message. Tkachenko said that “Luxembourg, Luxembourg”, despite the war, brings Ukraine back into the European cultural space, to which the country belongs mentally and historically.

The story centers on twin brothers from the Ukrainian city of Lubny. The brothers have disagreements: one of them is a policeman, the other’s a drug dealer. It starts out as a drama sprinkled with black humor. But then the twins go to Luxembourg, to meet their dying biological father. From this point on, events lean more towards the comedic side.

The re-screening of «Luxembourg, Luxembourg» will take place on the last day of the CinEast festival — October 23 — at the venue in Neumünster.
