Esch-sur-Alzette became the European capital of culture and a successful tourist attraction
Esch-sur-Alzette, one of the largest cities in Luxembourg, has received the title of European capital of culture this February. Thus, all year, especially in the summer, intrigued tourists come to the city. Both from different parts of the Grand Duchy and from abroad. More than 2,000 cultural events are planned for guests as part of Esch 2022.
According to a recent survey, almost 80% of Esch-sur-Alzette visitors were satisfied with their holiday. And only 6% of were disappointed by the capital of culture. Around 15% retained a neutral impression of it.
At the same time, 93% of tourists reported having good time in Esch-sur-Alzette. 87% noted the high cultural level of the events. The satisfaction rate was higher among guests from abroad than among native Luxembourgers. It’s 68% versus 54%.
It was the accessibility that a lot of people felt was lacking. 21% of visitors were disappointed by the lack of clear information on specific events.
Despite this, 80% of the participants are ready to attend other events in the Esch 2022 program. And more than 90% recommend those events that they’ve already attended. Tickets for local exhibitions and excursions sell out very quickly. In fact, all seats at the opening of the festival in February were bought out in just a day.
This data shows that Esch 2022 has successfully placed Esch-sur-Alzette on the tourist and cultural map of Europe. Therefore, the city has planned many more interesting events for its guests. Including joint events with Kaunas and Novi Sad, which have also received the title of European capital of culture this year.
The Esch 2022 program can be found on the festival’s official website. New events will continue to appear until the end of the year.
