This year's European Heritage Days, taking place from 19 to 28 September, are dedicated to architecture. Under the Council of Europe's motto "Heritage and architecture: windows to the past, doors to the future", 35 unique projects across the country will open doors to the world of Luxembourg's history, culture and urbanism.

Organised as part of a pan-European initiative launched in 1991 by the Council of Europe and the European Union, these days are designed to make cultural heritage more accessible and alive - not only for professionals but also for the general public. As Eric Thill, Minister of Culture, said, "architecture tells our shared history and helps build a vision for the future".

The programme impresses with its variety of formats: from video mapping on the walls of the archaeological crypt of the Plateau du Saint-Esprit to guided tours of old mines and castle ruins. Visitors are welcome to:

  • Guides and excursions to significant architectural and historical sites: the old organ manufactory in Lintgen, St John's Church in Grund, the mines in Haut-Martelange, the Hôtel de la Loge, the Dräi Eechelen Park Bastions and other sites.
  • Architectural and industrial walks including routes through disused industrial areas - Neischmelz, Rout Lëns, Metzeschmelz and Belval.
  • Cultural events: Mozart concert in rococo architecture, poetry readings in the Gallo-Roman theatre of Dalheim, Lidderuucht Lëtzebuerg concert.
  • Children's workshops, including the project "Little bricks for a big zone" with the participation of the Centre for Architecture (LUCA).
  • Night discoveries: the Beaufort and Larochette chateaux will be seen in a new light.

All events are free of charge and participation is open to all - citizens, tourists, families with children. The Ministry of Culture encourages you to use this chance to look at the country's heritage from a new angle.
