Luxembourg hosted Journées Immersives 2025 (Immersive Days) on 4 and 5 March 2025, a key XR (Augmented Reality) event organised by Film Fund Luxembourg in partnership with the PHI Centre of Montreal (PHI Centre), Bureau Europe Créative MEDIA and Innovative Initiatives. As part of the Immersive Art Pavilion at the Luxembourg City Film Festival, the event attracted around 150 participants, from experts and artists to digital arts students and representatives of exhibition spaces.
The event was hosted at the Cercle Cité and neimënster cultural centres, where international experts exchanged views on the future of XR, discussed key industry challenges and explored the latest trends.
One of the main topics was the problem of preserving and archiving digital works. Unlike traditional art, immersive works are often tied to aging equipment, which jeopardises their longevity. This issue was a particular focus for participants, as the XR industry is growing rapidly but has not yet developed sustainable mechanisms for preserving its works.
Another important topic was international coproductions and financing of XR projects. With the growing interest in immersive art, the issue of investment is becoming more and more important. Within the framework of the conference, opportunities for co-operation with major global XR platforms were discussed, as well as specific examples of successful projects.
Discussions on the impact of artificial intelligence on the development of immersive art played a special role at the event. From automated visual content creation to adaptive virtual environments, XR is rapidly integrating AI, which is changing the way works are created and perceived.
Journées Immersives 2025 was a milestone for the XR industry in Luxembourg. The event showcased projects by Luxembourg creators, emphasising the country's growing influence in the digital arts sector. The interaction with international experts and investors opens up new perspectives for the development of local XR projects and their entry into the global market.
