The Grand Duke and Duchess will tour the country next weekend after the coronation, with the final celebrations taking place in the capital. Organisers have announced a huge programme, culminating on Saturday evening, October 5, when a circular stage will be set up in the Glacis car park for 32 musicians and a drone show will soar over the city.
The Grand Duchess Charlotte Bridge is a special attraction. An unusual performance will take place here: eight trams will be part of a large-scale production. As Atelier director Laurent Loschetter explained, each tram will symbolise a different theme important to the new Grand Duke and the future of the country. The project will involve 1,600 residents, and the musical accompaniment will give the action the atmosphere of a modern open-air performance.
For preparation, the bridge will be closed from 22:00 to 5:00 on several consecutive nights, and on Saturday 5 October traffic will be restricted from 13:00 to Sunday evening. In the evening, tram services between the Philharmonie and Place de l'Étoile will be suspended from 18:00 to 22:00. After 22:00, traffic will resume, but the bridge itself will remain closed until the following day. Access for pedestrians and cyclists will remain, specified the city's alderman Patrick Goldschmidt.
Thus, the coronation will not only be a historical moment, but also a true cultural celebration that will combine symbols of urban infrastructure, music and the latest technology.
