In mid-March 2026, Luxembourg will once again host Open Pottery Day, an open house event at pottery workshops, which is traditionally held in Germany on the second weekend of March. The initiative was first launched in 2006 in several German federal states and by 2025 had spread to almost the entire country. At the same time, Luxembourgish potters joined the project for the first time.

In 2026, Luxembourg's artisans will open their doors to the general public for the second time under the motto "LOOK, TOUCH, BE AMAZED". Five studios in the Grand Duchy will become part of a large network of more than 500 pottery workshops in Germany and offer visitors the opportunity to discover the diversity of contemporary ceramics, from utilitarian tableware to artistic objects.

The programme is focused not only on demonstrating the products, but also on immersing visitors in the process itself. Guests can look forward to tours of workshops, working at the potter's wheel, demonstrations of various shaping techniques, and, at some locations, firing, including the spectacular raku firing, in which red-hot pieces are removed from the kiln and cooled in the open air. The organisers emphasise that the key elements of the event remain personal meetings, conversations with the masters, and the opportunity to spend several hours in a professional creative environment.

The organisers note a steady growth in interest in handmade ceramics. Tableware for everyday use, vessels for the home and garden, designer jewellery and experimental sculptures — all of this reflects the trend towards durability and environmental friendliness, which is gaining momentum in Europe amid discussions about overproduction and sustainable consumption. In this context, ceramics are perceived as a combination of functionality, aesthetics, and craft tradition.

The events will take place on 14 and 15 March from 10:00 to 18:00. An interactive map is available on the project's official website, allowing you to plan your own route and visit several workshops in different regions of Luxembourg and Germany.

The following will participate in Luxembourg:

  • Ancestral Cerâmica; 9, du Couvent L-1362 Luxembourg;
  • Creat’Our Workshop; 18, rue Principale L-9463 Stolzembourg;
  • Ceramics & Pottery Studio; 7, Baachhiel L-5682 Dalheim;
  • Céramiques La Poule; 8, rue Nic Conrady L-3552 Dudelange;
  • Teikan-a-ko; 8, rue Hicht L-6238 Breidweiler.

Each of these workshops will present its own approach to form, material and technique.
