DeepL, a company specialising in high-accuracy machine translation, has officially added Luxembourgish to the list of languages supported on its platform. The update is part of a major expansion that adds more than 80 new languages, including Afrikaans, Icelandic, Javanese and Irish. DeepL now supports over 100 languages, including all 24 official languages of the European Union.

Luxembourgish is still in beta, but even in this status, its appearance is considered a significant achievement. DeepL emphasises that businesses and institutions in the Grand Duchy will now be able to reduce language barriers in internal and external communication.

According to Ed Crook, DeepL's Vice President of Strategy and Operations, "expanding the translation base transforms language from a barrier into a strategic advantage." He also noted that with close economic ties within the region, companies need reliable tools for multilingual communication, whether for export and import activities, legal documentation, or digital services.

It is also important to note that the platform now covers almost all of the 20 most common languages in the world, underscoring DeepL's ambitions to compete with global machine translation giants. The company emphasises translation accuracy tailored to the context and business needs, rather than just speed.
