Luxembourg's Ministry of Culture will support galleries

The Luxembourg Ministry of Culture has launched a competition for professional art galleries involved in contemporary art. The programme aims to develop the visual arts sector and support galleries that promote Luxembourg artists nationally and internationally.

The competition provides funding of up to 15,000 € to cover the costs of publishing exhibition catalogues, artists' books and monographs. The total budget for the programme is 45,000 €.

To qualify for financial support, galleries must prepare a publication about a contemporary artist or art collective from Luxembourg. The publication must:

  • Be written in one of the official languages of Luxembourg (Luxembourgish, French, German) or in English.
  • Have a circulation of at least 300 copies.
  • To be disseminated through professional networks in Luxembourg or neighbouring countries.
  • Do not require a financial contribution from artists.
  • Be published no earlier than one month after the closing date for applications and no later than one year after that date.

Professional commercial galleries who are professional commercial galleries can apply:

  • Registered as a legal entity in Luxembourg.
  • Have been working in the art market for at least 3 years.
  • Have a permanent exhibition space.
  • Maintain fair contracts with artists.
  • Regularly participate in contemporary art fairs (e.g. Luxembourg Art Week, Art Brussels).

Applications from non-profit organisations, private individuals, municipalities or religious and political organisations are not permitted.

Funding covers the costs of creating and producing the publication, including:

  • Author's and translator's fees.
  • Design, layout, typography.
  • Photography, photogravure, printing.
  • Organising the presentation of the publication.

Papers will be accepted until 14 September 2025 (23:59) by emailing appels@mc.etat.lu. The results of the competition will be announced by 1 November 2025.
