New book about animals in Luxembourg

The new seventh volume in the Lëtzebuerger Wuertschatz series invites the reader into a veritable "menagerie of languages". This time the topic is the Déierewelt - the animal world: from terms for males, females and cubs to descriptions of the sounds animals make and verbs to describe how they give birth.

The book contains 248 words and expressions, each with an example of usage, a translation into German, French, English and Portuguese, and a colourful illustration. The book becomes not only a language guide, but also a visual journey through the world of domestic and wild animals.

In the preface, Culture Minister Eric Thill notes that the book will appeal to everyone "who loves language and animals at the same time" and concludes the introduction with the playful phrase: "Maacht Iech deemno op de Wee queesch duerch de sproochlechen Déieregaart: Dat deet de Bock schnadderen!", which can be translated as: "Take a trip through the linguistic menagerie - it'll be fun, and the goat will jump!"

The book is published on 21 November and will be available in Luxembourg bookstores at a price of €12.50.
