The population of Luxembourg's capital reached 136,208 people
Over the past year, the population of the capital of Luxembourg (Luxembourg-ville) has grown by 1,500 people to 136,208 inhabitants. Only about 30 per cent (40,600 people) are Luxembourg citizens, with the remaining 70 per cent from other nationalities. On 51 km² of the capital's territory there are representatives of 169 different countries, which emphasises its cosmopolitan character, said the mayor of the city Lydie Polfer.
Statistics show a steady increase in population:
- The natural increase was 538 people (1,185 births against 647 deaths).
- Migration from other communes in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg brought 4,304 new residents.
- Moves from abroad accounted for the largest part of the increase: 14,097 people moved to Luxembourg City during the year.
These figures confirm that the demographic development of the city remains positive and predictable.
Bonnevoie remains the most populous neighbourhood in the city with 17,954 inhabitants. It is followed by:
- Belair (12,990 people),
- Limpertsberg (Limpertsberg) (11,521 inhabitants),
- Gar (Gare) with 11 360 inhabitants,
- Kirchberg (Kirchberg) - 10,725 people,
- Gasperich (Gasperich) - 10,208 people.
Cosmopolitanism remains the capital's hallmark, and this high level of diversity requires careful management of infrastructure, social services and integration. Luxembourg confidently maintains its status as one of the most dynamic and international capitals in Europe.
